Swallow-tailed Kite - PEI

On August 13th, 2023, A Swallow-tailed Kite was discovered in Pleasant Grove, Prince Edward Island. The bird was spotted soaring around some cut hayfields starting from about 10 am each morning. On August 19th, I decided to go see this bird and try for some photographs. This bird is quite rare in Canada and is a first record for PEI. Its normal breeding range only extends as far north as Florida and most of these birds have left there for their wintering habitat in South America by now. I have seen this species only once before in Brazil alongside a busy road so really didn’t get a great chance to observe them. I captured over 2000 photos that morning. Here are some of my favorites of this amazing bird.
